SYNOT liga: 2nd round overshadowed by tragedy

The 2nd round of the SYNOT liga was overshadowed at the weekend by the death of longtime Teplice Manager František Hrdlička. Teplice’s match with České Budějovice was postponed indefinitely. Otherwise, the round saw 20 goals scored with slip ups by many of the goalkeepers.

SYNOT liga: 2nd round overshadowed by tragedy

Friday’s match saw Baník Ostrava take on Slavia Praha in Eden. Slavia went into the match looking to build on their first round victory over Slovácko and did so in fine style, beating their opponents 3:1 to take them to the top of the table. Striker Milan Škoda showed his scoring prowess with two goals.

Slavia, however, only remained top of the table overnight as they saw Sparta beat Jihlava 3:0. The first-half remained goalless but the second-half saw Tomáš Příkryl score two goals in quick succession with Bořek Dočkal adding the third for the Letna side.

Bohemians 1905 travelled to Slovácko, looking to atone for their defeat at the hands of Slavia last weekend.  However, things did not go Bohemians’ way as they were beaten 4:1 with two goals and an assist from Libor Došek.

Brno welcomed league newcomers Hradec Králové and after a goalless first-half, it was Brno who dominated the match, finding the back of the net on three occassions.  Saturday’s match between Teplice and České Budějovice was cancelled due to the tragic death of Teplice coach František Hrdlička.

Sunday saw Plzeň play Jablonec, both teams currently participating in the Europa liga this season.  New signing, Tomáš Hübschman, made his first appearance for Jablonec. Plzeň dominated the match, finding themselves 2:0 up in the first sixteen minutes thanks to a penalty from Daniel Kolář and an own goal from Vlastimil Hrubý. The victory was rounded off with Milan Petržela scoring Plzeň’s third goal.

Liberec dropped points in their match against Příbram, walking away with a 0:0 draw. The result could have been worse but for an outstanding performance by Liberec keeper Lukáš Hrošš, who made save after save. Příbram did hit the bar in the second-half but in the end both teams split the points.

Mladá Boleslav suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Dukla Praha as they went down 1:0.  The only goal of the game came in 5th minute after a mistake by keeper Jan Bořil was capitalized on by Frenchman Jean-David Beauguel.
