The battle for the Super Cup - will Plzeň avenge their previous defeat by Sparta?

Sparta have the chance, for the first time in history, to do the treble should they win the Super Cup tomorrow. After winning both the league and the National Cup for only the second time in history, they could kick off the new season with a win in the Super Cup. Plzeň will be looking to avenge their defeat at the hands of Sparta in the NC.

The battle for the Super Cup - will Plzeň avenge their previous defeat by Sparta?

In 2010, it was Sparta who emerged victorious while in the following year Plzeň defeated Mladá Boleslav on penalties.  Last year, Plzeň lost 3:2 to Jablonec.  While this will be the premiere for the new season, Sparta have already played their opening match in the second qualifying round of the Champions League, in which they demolished Estonia champions Levadia Tallinn 7:0 - five goals coming from David Lafata.

As a result. Sparta coach Vitězslav Lavička may decide to focus on the Super Cup as opposed to the return match against Levadia Tallinn on Tuesday.

¨For us, the priority is the Champions League, but we will definitely be going after the Super Cup.  The Cup is our second match in a few days and we will fight to win the match,¨ said midfielder Bořek Dočkal.

Plzeň goes into the match straight from their training camp in Austria, where they lost to Karabakh and Lokomotiv Moskva and drew with Ingolstadt.  ¨It is true that the results of the warm-up matches could have been better, but the coach tried different team combinations over the matches.  The preparation was more important than the results,¨ said goalkeeper Matúš Kozáčík.

The match will take place at Sparta stadium starting at 17.45 and be broadcast on ČT Sport.
