A blow for Bohemians: Goalkeeper Berkovec missing from the line-up
In the crucial match at the bottom of the table, Bohemians will be without goalkeeper Martin Berkovec as they face Slavia over the weekend. Berkovec is currently on loan to the Kangaroos from Slavia and as such will not be allowed to take part in the match according to the Bohemians official website.
Slavia is the only club in the league that will not permit players on loan to be included in teams playing against them.
‘’We do not want to prevent players from playing. Professional footballers want to play games so why stop them?’’ said the Sports Director of the club Karol Kisel.
Apparently that is not the case. With five rounds to go in the Gambrinus liga, second from bottom Slavia travel to Ďolíček. Should Bohemians play Berkovec, they would face a stiff penalty for doing so from Eden.
The management at Bohemians have refused to do so and coach Luděk Klusáček faces a choice between Jiří Havránek a Peter Gabriš.
‘’We see this as mainly an ethical issue. The fact is that both teams are battling against relegation and in five weeks Berkovec will return to Slavia, where we believe he has a bright future,’’ said Kisel, who apparently has the player’s interests at heart.
‘’We appreciate the complications but we hope that Bohemians can understand our desire to protect our players, both now and in the future,’’ said the Slavia Sports director.
