I can only hope my teammates understand, smiles Luckassen
Slovan Liberec has just signed midfielder Kevin Luckassen, who they hope will prove to be a secret weapon in their upcoming match against the Dutch side Alkmaar. We talked to Kevin and asked him about his first impressions on signing for the club.
How would you briefly describe the Slovan fans?
I am a strong player. I’m going to
work hard at Liberec and try and improve my game. I would like to support them in any way I can
and score goals.
What are your first impressions of Slovan?
I’ve only been here a short time. I didn’t feel settled in the game against
Mladá Boleslav so it’s a bit up and down at the moment. I’m very happy that I got the chance to play
and it’s a pity that the match ended in a draw.
We should have won.
Have you managed to find somewhere to live?
Not yet. I’m living in a hotel right now where I’ve
managed to meet the captain and some of the other players. But
in time, I’m sure I’ll manage to sort out a place of my own.
When did you actually learn you were going to be transferred?
I only learned of the transfer to Liberec two days before their match against
Boleslav and I’m glad that it went through.
Did you have any information about how the negotiations were going?
Almost none, actually.
The negotiations had been goingfor a while and there was a lot of talk
but the transfer was far from certain. It was only a few days ago that the negotiations
gathered pace and suddenly it was all over and done. As I’ve said, I’m glad the transfer went
smoothly.
You were already with the team at the training camp in Portugal. How did you enjoy it?
I really enjojed it. Liberec are a good
team with some great players and I think I can learn a lot from them and
improve my game.
Did you know some of the players before coming to Liberec?
I pretty much didn’t know anyone. I knew
Isaac Sakey a little because I’d met him before. We have the same roots. Although I come from the Netherlands, my
parents are from Ghana like Isaac.
Did you know anything about Czech football?
Yes, I talked to Isaac about it and he told me a lot. We talked about the league, the clubs and what
it’s like here. I think it will help me
to get used to playing in the league here.
So it’s
pretty much useless me asking who you get along best with…..
Of course, with Isaac.
And what
about your relationship with your other teammates and the coach?
So far no problems. There are
many other players who speak English.
They translate the instructions from the coach to me in English and on
the pitch the players players just scream at me in English. I only hope that I can understand what
they’re saying.
